| Uncle Wyman Wilson was born and raised in Winterset, Iowa. After a long career working with Dr. Van Allen of the University of Iowa, Lockheed Electronics and NASA (where some of his stuff landed on the moon and orbited Mars), he returned to Winterset, working in the mortgage, real estate and insurance industries. After noticing an increase in traffic to the bridge he has lived next to for 25 years, Uncle Wyman took a chance and opened a small 10'x18' gift shop in 1994. "It was my reverse Field of Dreams", Wyman says. "They were coming, so I built it." | |

| When Amblin secured the rights to make a movie from Robert Waller's The Bridges of Madison County novel, Madison County fought hard to be the location for the filming. Hollywood parked on Wyman's upper field during the filming, and he had the distinct privilege of standing behind the cameras as scenes at the bridge were shot with Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. | |

The preliminary success of the shop prompted an expansion to 24'x36' for 1995, and many new items were added in anticipation of even more customers. Two weeks after the release of the Bridges movie, Uncle Wyman switched to running the shop full time, and he is pleased to be able to show you the wide selection of unusual and unique items available for sale. Take a look through the site, and feel free to call or drop Uncle Wyman a line. You come as a visitor and leave as a friend! |
